Primary Purpose: He aha te mea o te ao? He takata, he takata, he takata.

The primary purpose of these services is to support the Rūnaka to achieve its strategic priority in relation to the Ahi Kā; that more whānau are confident in taking on cultural leadership roles.  

Values:  These services stem from kaikokiritaka (the nurturing of people into leadership roles) & manaakitaka (care & hospitality) but also encompasses whakapapa (through helping whānau to understand their whakapapa links to our runaka and marae and to each other), tīkaka and kawa (providing opportunities for whānau to grow in their knowledge of the customary protocols of our marae and iwi).  Rēhia is also important to the positions as we know that the best learning takes place within a healthy and positive environment, where everyone benefits and are encouraged to stay committed to kaupapa.

Strategic Plan 2013-2018:  All the services come within the Ahi Kā priority ‘Whanau feel Like they belong here”.  Within that priority area the positions are within the section dedicated to Culture and Identity – Taking Culture Forward with the outcome that “More whānau are confident in taking on cultural leadership roles”.

Task 1.  To develop and implement a programme of wānaka and cultural learning opportunities across a range of traditional mātauraka areas.  The aim of the programme will be to ensure that within 5-years that amongst the rūnaka ahi kā members there is sufficient depth to be able to bring more secure leadership to the marae and also bring a depth of cultural knowledge to the extensive range of areas where the runaka needs to have input to fulfil our kaitiaki responsibilities and maintain the mana of our rūnaka.  

Task 2.  To co-ordinate the paepae (front of marae aspects) in consultation with the runaka office and Kaiāwhina for manuhiri bookings and to ensure appropriate support is in place for manuhiri when visiting Puketeraki Marae.  The purpose is to enable the runaka to consistently extend manaakitaka.  Those who support the paepae and our manuhiri will be promoting knowledge of Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki kawa, pūrakau and history to manuhiri. 

Task 3.   To coordinate the implementation of the Puketeraki Language Strategy as guided by the Language Strategy Working Group.  The purpose of this strategy (Te Aroka Matua) is to provide a focus to revitalise te reo Māori for Kāti Huirapa ki Puketeraki. It is hoped that this strategy will provide leadership and direction that will ensure positive outcomes for our community, whānau and te reo Māori.

Expressions of Interest sought:  Kati Huirapa Rūnaka ki Puketeraki is calling for Expressions of Interest from people who are interested in delivering any or all of the services / tasks.  We would like to hear about your experience and the approach you would take in relation to the task(s) you are interested in.  We are keen to learn about your vision for our rūnaka and how you would approach these tasks.

 

Employment / Contracting.  The rūnaka would consider contracting for services or an employment relationship depending on what was agreed as the best way to achieve the outcomes sought.
