The Runaka and Hui te Rangiora whānau have 2 important events coming up. On Friday 22 September at 7.30pm the installation of the new Bishop for Otago and Southland is being held at St Paul’s Cathedral Dunedin and on behalf of manawhenua we will be welcoming the new Bishop, the Archbishop and entourage, which will include Bishop Richard Wallace (Māori Bishop of Te Waipounamu). All are welcome to attend to support this occasion. Our responsibilities are to karanga, mihi & waiata.
The second event is even more special to our Runaka, it is the dedication of the Parata Chapel in St Paul’s Cathedral & also the dedication of the cross for the chapel that has been carved by Rongomai Parata Taiapa & Ewan Duff. This is taking place on Sunday 15th October at 10.00am. Please pass on this message to whānau you know who will want to know about this & who may not receive the Runaka pānui. This will be a lovely occasion to remember the contribution to our community made by Tame Parata & Peti Hurene and their descendants, especially Canon Pat Parata. Again the Runaka will have a range of responsibilities that will definitely include waiata (see attached for words).
There are some costs associated with the new cross that has been carved, in particular the cost of the pounamu that is inlaid in the cross, as well as the cost of the pounamu carving. It would also be nice to be able to have a hākari to follow the dedication (see attached)
Contributions towards the cross & hākari can be made via Kati Huirapa Runanga ki Puketeraki, Westpac account 031737 0020705 00, Reference - P Chapel (must be included). If you don’t want to be named as a donor use Anon for the name.
